Our program is led by a distinguished faculty comprising experienced clinicians and educators with extensive expertise in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Family Medicine. Each member of our faculty is deeply committed to providing comprehensive training and mentorship, drawing on years of experience in educating residents and fellows at the highest standards.

Mission Statement
The Advanced Obstetrics Family Medicine Fellowship is committed to the advanced training of family physicians in comprehensive obstetric and perinatal care, with a focus on serving rural and medically underserved populations. Through a rigorous, evidence-based curriculum and supervised clinical practice, the program prepares fellows to deliver high-quality, culturally responsive care to diverse and minority communities. We aim to develop physician leaders who are equipped to address healthcare disparities, promote excellence in health outcomes, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of community-based maternal and family health.

About the Fellowship
The Self Regional Healthcare (SRH) Fellowship in Advanced Obstetrics and Women’s Health is a two-year training program designed to prepare family medicine physicians to manage the full spectrum of obstetric and gynecologic care, including high-risk pregnancies, advanced surgical procedures, and comprehensive ultrasound diagnostics.
Rooted in a family-centered maternity care model, the fellowship emphasizes interprofessional collaboration and patient-centered decision-making. Fellows will gain extensive experience under the mentorship of a multidisciplinary faculty team including obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, laborists, and family medicine obstetricians (FMOBs)
Program Goals
- Equip fellows with advanced skills in managing routine and high-risk pregnancies.
- Develop proficiency in surgical obstetrics and outpatient gynecologic procedures.
- Foster collaborative care models through supervised practice and interdepartmental coordination.
- Prepare fellows for Board Certification through the American Board of Physician Specialties.
Program Clinical Experiences
Fellows will:
- Perform key surgical procedures such as cesarean sections, Dilation & Curettage, postpartum tubal ligations, colposcopy, LEEP, and assisted vaginal deliveries.
- Manage a wide range of high-risk cases including:
- Type 2 and gestational diabetes (T2DM, GDM)
- Preterm labor
- Multiple gestation
- Autoimmune disorders and other complications
- Attain advanced ultrasound training, including fetal anatomy scans.
- Serve as Junior Faculty, teaching and supervising family medicine residents in labor and delivery and in the neonatal nursery.
Learning Opportunities
Fellows will benefit from:
- Daily prenatal care management and continuity with traditional family medicine patients.
- Daily hospital rounding with family medicine residents on antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum cases.
- Hands-on ultrasound training with faculty, including direct instruction from Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists.
- Participation in the AAFP Family-Centered Maternity Care Conference (annually).
- Call experience: will reinforce real-world readiness and autonomy.

Program History and Distinction
Established in 1980, the SRH Family Medicine Residency Program was founded to train physicians for comprehensive care in rural and underserved areas. Over 45 years, it has evolved into a nationally recognized leader in family medicine education.

- Integrated Curriculum: The fellowship includes robust training in both normal and complex obstetrics, with immersive surgical, outpatient, and ultrasound training.
- Expert Faculty: Instruction is provided by a diverse team of OBGYNs, MFMs, FMOBs, and laborists—offering rich perspectives and cross-disciplinary expertise.
- Community Focus: Fellows will work with a culturally and socioeconomically diverse patient population across rural and urban settings, gaining the cultural competence essential for delivering equitable care.
The program is the only graduate medical education program at Self Regional Healthcare and has a proven track record of producing skilled, compassionate physicians committed to maternal and family health.
