Julie and I have four children and are both Indiana natives. We have enjoyed living in South Carolina for the past 25 years. We enjoy water sports, running, mountain biking, golf, fishing, gardening, college sports (especially Clemson football) and snow skiing. Greenwood is perfect for year-round outdoor fun. We are involved in our local church and also have been involved in various international medical endeavors. Our residency faculty are such a great group of people who are committed to serving the underserved and training family physicians to practice full scope family medicine in rural and underserved areas. I am thankful that we have been able to recruit excellent resident physicians who are fully committed to using family medicine to improve the health of communities and patients. Our mission is to train the best family physicians in the United States. That mission keeps every day exciting and invigorating.

PERSONAL NOTE

I enjoy outdoor hiking, biking, and snowboarding with my wife and children. We also are involved in our local church and international medical missions. I joined the faculty full time after nine years in rural practice. I love to teach and to see residents and students succeed. It’s just great to be part of this team of top-notch residents and faculty.

PERSONAL NOTE

My wife, Carey, and I are natives of Kansas. We first came to Greenwood in 2005 when I began my family medicine residency. I was then very fortunate to be the inaugural fellow for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Self Regional. My training prepared me well for a practice in rural Kansas and to serve as team physician at Fort Hays State University, a NCAA Division II school in Hays, Kansas. After four years of private practice, I was honored to be asked to return to Greenwood as a member of the family medicine and sports medicine faculty in 2013. We are grateful for the opportunity to raise our children in a place that has been so very important in our lives. We are active in our church and of course busy with the activities of our three children (who are growing up too quickly)!

I chose Self (twice!) primarily because Greenwood is a place with wonderful people. I believe the residency and fellowship are staffed with some of the best mentors and friends that a physician in training could ever hope to work with. The community took excellent care of our growing family during my residency and fellowship, and has continued to do so since we returned. My goal is to make sure our current residents and fellows have an experience during their training as well-rounded and fulfilling as the one that I enjoyed.

PERSONAL NOTE:

I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and have spent most of my life in the Midwest. During those years I developed a love for Indiana Hoosier basketball, met my wonderful wife Carly, and completed my undergraduate degree at Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN where I played baseball. I continued my education at Indiana University School of Medicine and then decided to head South and completed my Family Medicine Residency and Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Self Regional. After spending 4 years practicing Family and Sports Medicine in Vincennes, Indiana, I returned to Greenwood in 2019.

The excitement of a broad scope of practice, my love for musculoskeletal medicine, and the joy of developing meaningful relationships with patients helped me choose Family and Sports Medicine. My love for teaching and the excellent faculty and residents in Greenwood led me back to Self Regional. My clinical interests include concussion management, care for overhead athletes, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Outside of work, I spend as much time as I can with Carly and my three children – Brooks, Madison, and Eliana. I also enjoy running, reading Christian non-fiction, remaining active in our local church, and following the Los Angeles Dodgers.

PERSONAL NOTE

Married to Ann for over 40 years, six great kids, 13 grands and excellent fellowship at church are the joys of my life. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and was a German major in College while competing in track and field. I had my first taste of the south at Duke Medical School and have loved it ever since. I spent 10 years private practice in Colorado Springs and returned to the South. I have spent 32 years teaching at Self Regional Healthcare while starting the Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2007. I love travelling and spending time with Ann, kids and grands, worship and many sports including SCUBA, alpine skiing, triathlon, mountain biking and disc golf. My life has truly been fulfilled and rewarding with a phenomenal family and wife, good health, a great job and a wonderful Lord.

I chose Self because of the outstanding quality of the clinical experience plus the amazing residents and faculty, option for overseas medical mission work and sports medicine fellowship development opportunity. The 32 years here have been by far the most enjoyable of my life.

PERSONAL NOTE

I was born and raised in West Virginia but spent almost 15 years in North Carolina before moving here to Greenwood. My husband and I met as camp counselors in college and have been married for 17 years now. We have two “full-time” children, and as a foster family we routinely have “bonus” children with us as well. We love to spend time outside—I like to run and hike, and I used to like tennis until my knee informed me it disagreed. I also love to read (a lot) and bake.

I love my job. I love caring for children and their families, and I love teaching new doctors to do the same.

Faith, family, and fellowship are the foundations of my life. I am grateful each day for the opportunity to practice medicine and to work alongside such dedicated faculty and residents here at Self. I am married to my best friend, Jessica, and together we are raising our son, Casey. Our dog, Sidney, completes our family.

I have lived in the Carolinas my entire life. Jess and I met at Clemson (Go Tigers!) and later moved to Charleston, where I attended medical school at MUSC. I completed residency training here at Self before pursuing a fellowship in Hospital Medicine in Greenville, SC. My professional interests include inpatient medicine, critical care, cardiovascular health, and the management of complex chronic diseases.

Our family loves living in Greenwood and being part of the close-knit community we’ve found here. We are active in our local church and enjoy spending our free time chasing our toddler around the farm, exercising, and exploring God’s creation in the great outdoors.

PERSONAL NOTE

I have had the privilege of teaching family medicine and obstetrics both in the United States and on the mission field. In 2017 my family and I moved back to America from Kenya where I had worked as a missionary doctor, and I joined the faculty here in 2018. I am excited to be a part of this practice, teaching family medicine and women’s health care. In addition to teaching, I have a passion for working with underserved patient populations, both at home and globally. The practice here is full spectrum family medicine, and our residents learn to do it all: from inpatient medicine to pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology, along with a busy and challenging outpatient practice. We work as a team and like what we do! I also am blessed to have an incredible family, and I love being a wife and mom in addition to being a doctor! Although I am originally from Virginia, my husband grew up not far from here, and my family and I are happy to be a part of this awesome community in Greenwood, SC.

PERSONAL NOTE

I am married with two wonderful children (son and daughter). I graduated with my doctorate from Ole Miss and completed my residency in Durham, NC and my fellowship in Providence, RI. After completing my fellowship I worked for several years within a developmental behavioral pediatrics division before joining the faculty at the MCFM/SRH. It has been a wonderful experience! The quality of the residents, faculty, and staff here is what makes the MCFM special. I serve as the director of behavioral medicine and enjoy a busy practice, teaching, and seeing the residents develop into strong physicians. When not working I enjoy spending time with my family, running, and being outdoors.

Self Regional Healthcare is a hidden jewel. The residents, faculty, and staff truly care for patients, and it shows day to day at work and outside of work. The broad-based learning is incredible and the quality of the program is unmatched.
